What's the last compliment you gave and/or received?
Submitted by MalieKai.
I recently wrote to both of my parents and told them all of the wonderful qualities I see in them. It was a very heartfelt and emotional letter, that came to me in a flash of intuition and inspiration. It felt good to realize all of their great character traits and felt even better to let them know I admire them.
In your ultimate dream house, what does your favorite room look like?
Here's my favorite room in my ultimate dream house, classified ad style:
Wanted - One room with a bay window filled with lush green foliage, sliding glass doors leading out to the secluded backyard. A fireplace with exquisite mantle is required. Room should have 3-5 hardwood steps leading down into the plush, neutral colored carpet throughout. Prefer room to be furnished with premium reclining leather sofa and stools, cedar coffee and end tables, a large LCD wall panel TV with surround sound. Walls should be adorned with plenty of artwork from the likes of Marc Chagall and Gustav Flimt. Call me.
When do you file your taxes? Do you do it yourself or get outside help?
I try to file my taxes as soon as I get all of my tax information from my employers and banks. We almost always get a refund, so I want that money in my hot little hands ASAP! Which reminds me, I filed at least a week ago and I haven't seen a deposit in my bank account yet. Need to investigate that.
Since we bought a house this year, I thought we'd have to pay someone to do our taxes for the first time ever, but I was still able to do them myself using online tax software. I use TaxAct.com and have been very happy with them.
Ever get away with saying somebody else did it?
Ummm. I have a twin brother, what do you think? Heh.
I honestly feel bad for all the stuff that I put off on him over the years. Most of it was inane childhood crap, but there were a few doozies that were just not right. I made amends to him for that in my 9th step work, but I still cringe when I think about it.
It's funny how instinctual that is in me to want to place blame elsewhere when things don't go right. I catch myself doing it all the time. It's hard being a grown up and claiming responsibility for things, but it also feels so good to put my head on the pillow at night with a clear conscience.
What's the most obsessive-compulsive thing you do in a normal day?
Submitted by Nikki.
Oh my goodness. I am the queen OCD girl. My husband calls me "OCD" all the time. Ha! I've got issues, plain and simple. Thankfully my obsession and compulsions with the food and alcohol have been removed, for the most part, because those two were definitely the biggest on my list.
Today I'm generally just obsessive-compulsive about keeping things clean or tidy or making sure everything is in its place. Everything has a place and if the things are not in their place, it drives me nuts. Even if I'm too lazy to get up to do something about it, I'll sit there on the couch thinking about it. I'm also obsessive-compulsive about how the dishes go in the dishwasher. There is a system and if I find that someone else has loaded up the dishwasher the wrong way, I have no qualms about taking everything out and putting it in there "right".
Yeah. And you'd think my house was absolutely spotless from this entry, but you'd be wrong. :-)
If you could open a restaurant, any kind you want, what would it look like and what's on the menu?
Submitted by A is for Amy.
I have thought about this a lot, actually. I would love to open a restaurant that served nothing but clean, abstinent food. No sugar, no flour, no processed foods, just all natural, healthy, good food. For each item on the menu, I'd give the option to specify how many ounces or cups they'd like it to be.
I'd offer things like brown rice, sweet potato fries, and beans for starches. For protein choices, I'd have all lean meats and tofu and tempeh, cooked with clean, low-sodium spices. For vegetables, I'd be able to offer just about all of them - but the cooked ones would be steamed and I'd have nice dressings for the salads.
There'd be an array of flavored seltzer waters and diet sodas along with coffee and tea for beverages.
I haven't fleshed out any of the other details like what the place would look like - I've just thought about the menu, of course. It's always all about the food!
What's the best present you gave this year?
This is a toss up, but I think the winner is the presents we gave to the family we adopted this year. We got all of the presents for two girls, a boy and their mother along with their Christmas dinner and it felt damn good to do that. I hope they enjoyed it.
The runner up present has to be the puppy we got for our family. She's been such a blessing in our lives these past few days. I can't wait to watch her grow up and become a large member of our family.
How do you take your tea or coffee?
Submitted by Vasquez.
I've recently converted to an "all black" kind of girl. Years ago, I had to have lots of sugar and lots of cream in my coffee or tea. Once I got abstinent, though, I went to just cream (or milk) in my coffee. But I found that I was drinking a lot of coffee and that I was going to have to start counting the milk as a food... but I wasn't ready or willing to do it.
A couple of months ago, my husband made coffee one morning and I really, really wanted some, but we didn't have any milk in the house. I said, "What the heck, let me just try it." And I drank it without milk that day and liked it. I've been drinking it black for the most part ever since! There have been some cups that were just awful black, so I've added a bit of milk to them, but that is the exception rather than the rule.
Interestingly enough, I started back on the losing track again a few months ago... coincidence? I think not. :-)
Do you have a nervous habit?
Submitted by Herding Cats.
I have a couple - I think the worst one is cracking my knuckles. And I'm not even sure if it's "nervous" any more, as much as it just is a habit. When I'm nervous, my legs bounce up and down while I'm sitting and I count repetitively in my head, by different amounts. I'll count by twos, then by threes, then by fours, etc. until I get my mind off of whatever it is I'm nervous about.
